The Process Discovery methodology is supported by three distinct steps. Each should be completed in sequence in order to optimise the solution for RPA Delivery.
Process Discovery is the inlet to the automation delivery pipeline. It is supported by robust governance strategy whose requirements are set by the Robotic Operating Model (ROM). To ensure the development pipeline is sustained it is crucial to identify business units that can benefit from business process optimization and automation.
The three steps to process discovery are Process Triage, Process Assessment and Process Analysis.
identifying the level 1 processes that would be good candidates for automation and prioritising can be achieved by heat mapping. It is generally recommended that only characteristic is selected initially and additional benefits are realised as the development matures.
Surfacing the required information, to enable selection of the processes that are likely to be automated by the delivery team. This will define level 2 processes and should be achievable at a conversational level by an RPA Analyst with the process SME.
A level three process will undergo analysis to finalise the business case for automation.
A full walk-through of the process should be done by an RPA Analyst with the SME to capture integration requirements with consideration to the process that precede and follow each process to define the optimal breadth of development.
